Artist Maureen Erwin, of Lafayette, above, creates a self-portrait painting of Italian baroque painter Artemisia Gentileschi during the 10th annual Italian Street Painting Festival on Sept. 28-29, in Martinez. Also working was artist Jeff Cruz, of Melvin, Australia, left, creating a scene of a Super Mario Bros. video game. Artists had two days to create their works of art, and visitors voted on their favorite, Christine Pasadis. Visitors interested in trying their hand at sidewalk creations were able to do so in the community chalk area. In addition to the chalk art, there were dozens of arts and crafts booths, Italian music and a Kid Zone with interactive art.
