College Park High plans Musician's Showcase
College Park High School Instrumental Music program presents the 13th annual Musicians Showcase.
This year's showcase, "A Masquerade Ball," is set for 5 to 10 p.m. Oct. 19, at the Hilton Concord, 1970 Diamond Blvd., Concord.
The event features dinner, raffle, live and silent auctions, with entertainment by all six of the College Park High School music ensembles.
All proceeds benefit the instrumental music program under the direction of Jorge Jimenez. Tickets are $60 per person and can be purchased online at http://auctions.readysetauction.com/cpimb-collegeparkins.

PHMS hosts navigating middle school forum
Pleasant Hill Middle School will host a forum discussing middle school topics for parents and students in grades 4-8, at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 9, at the school, One Santa Barbara Road, Pleasant Hill.
The forum is organized by the Pleasant Hill Education Commission in partnership with Pleasant Hill Education Initiative.

MDUSD run raises funds for programs
The annual 5K Competitive Run and the Fun Run/Walk to help save sports in Mt. Diablo district high schools, will take place Oct. 13, beginning at Newhall Park with the finish at Turtle Creek in Concord.
The proceeds will fund athletics in the district's six area high schools for the 2013-2014 school season. All ages are welcome.
There will be a timed competitive 5K run starting at 9 a.m., as well as fun run/walk at 9:45 a.m.
Medals and prizes will be awarded for various age groups. The school with the most sign-ups will be presented with a trophy to display for a year.
Registration is $25 per runner, $30 the day of the event. All participants that obtain $50 or more in sponsorships do not have to pay a registration fee.
Parking is available at Clayton Valley Charter School, 1101 Alberta Way, Concord.

'Zombie Prom' will be opening at DVC Oct. 25
Performances of Diablo Valley College Drama Department's "Zombie Prom" will be at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays Oct. 25-Nov. 9, and 2:30 p.m. Sundays, Nov. 3 and 10.
The show, directed by Sierra Dee, will be at the college, 321 Golf Club Road, Pleasant Hill.
Zombie Prom is a off-Broadway musical based on John Dempsey's fictional story of a teenage boy that is brought back to life by the love of his high school sweetheart.
The drama includes a selection of original songs in the style of the 1950s.

Mt. Diablo district to hold first college fair
The Mt. Diablo Unified School District wants to make sure its students are college bound, and is holding its first -- and hopefully annual -- college fair.
The fair will be held from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday Oct. 30, at Ygnacio Valley High School, 755 Oak Grove Road, in Concord.
Students will be able to meet representatives from colleges and universities across the country as well as hear from local educational resources.
The fair is ideal for juniors and seniors, according to a flier for the event. It's open to students form College Park, Concord, Mt. Diablo, Northgate, Olympic, Ygnacio Valley, Nueva Vista/Summit, Prospect and Crossroads high schools, and Gateway and Diablo Community day schools. Students must show their I.D. from a MDUSD school in order to attend the fair.
