PLEASANT HILL -- An Antioch man was arrested on a slew of child sex abuse charges after an investigation that revealed he not only had numerous child pornography images, but that he may have been repeatedly abusing at least one minor for years, police said.
A Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office task force began investigating Hector Leon, 48, at the end of July after a Pleasant Hill police officer assigned to the group was notified that child pornography images were being shared from Leon's computer, according to Pleasant Hill police Lt. Dan Connelly.
Police served a search warrant on Leon's home Sept. 18, Connelly said. An undisclosed number of images were seized and police subsequently were able to identify a victim in many of the photos.
Police are not revealing the victim's gender or age in an effort to protect the child's identity, but according to senior deputy district attorney Nancy Georgiou, the abuse is believed to have spanned from 2008 to this year.
Connelly said this was the first time the task force had been made aware of Leon's alleged crimes.
Leon was booked into County Jail in Martinez on $3.44 million bail. He faces 82 felony charges, including numerous counts of lewd and lascivious acts on a child under age 14, oral copulation with a minor and possession of child pornography.
He pleaded not guilty Nov. 14, and has a preliminary hearing scheduled for Nov. 26.
