On the deck of the Island Princess while sailing through the Panama Canal, Martinez Mayor Rob Schroder and his wife, Suzanne Hatch Schroder, took a moment with their family, from left, Jim Hatch, Suzanne, Rob, Sarah Hatch, Sara Schroder, Sophie Hatch and Carol Hatch, to catch up on the community news in the Pleasant Hill/Martinez Record. They traveled over the holidays, arriving in Aruba on Christmas Eve and at Cartagena, Columbia, the day after Christmas. Their entire journey through the canal's Gatun locks, Gatun Lake and Culebra Cut, and the Pedro Miguel and Miraflores locks took 14 hours. They then headed up the Pacific Coast of Central America, and made stops at Puntarenas, Costa Rica; San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua, and Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, spending New Year's Eve and Day at sea.

It doesn't matter if your time away is spent across the Bay or across the country -- remember to pack the Record to keep up with news of the community, and then show your neighbors where you have been.
