Hot start for Eagles

  • The Clayton Valley Charter High baseball team won its first eight games of the season, including a series sweep over Concord to open Diablo Valley Athletic League play. The Eagles needed eight innings to beat the Minutemen 4-3 on March 18. Two days later, Austin Cannedy fired a three-hitter in a 6-0 home win over Concord. The Eagles were led offensively by Jordan Chin, who had three hits and drove in three runs in the two wins.

    Cougars softball starts 4-1

  • Taylor and Sierra Blair have led the Carondelet High softball team to a 4-1 start to the season. Taylor, a junior pitcher, already has 11 hits and seven RBI in the five games. She's also the Cougars primary pitcher and has an ERA of 1.85 in her five starts. Sierra, Taylor's sophomore sister, is the second leading hitter on the team with a .438 average and eight runs. She belted a homer in the Cougars' 5-2 win over Monte Vista to kick off East Bay Athletic League play.

    Knights lacrosse strong in DFAL

  • Las Lomas' boys lacrosse team improved to 3-0 in Diablo Foothill Athletic League play with wins over Miramonte and Dougherty Valley during the week of March 17. Colin Rutan scored five goals in a 9-2 win over Miramonte on March 18. The Knights then beat Dougherty Valley 13-5 on March 21 to stay in a tie with Acalanes for first place in the league standings.

  • Vintage-Napa at Alhambra, softball, March 29, noon -- The Bulldogs will host a Vintage team that won the Sac-Joaquin Section Division I title a season ago.

  • Northgate at Berean Christian, baseball, April 1, 4 p.m. -- Walnut Creek rivals square off for the first of a two-game series during the week.

  • Campolindo at Bishop Gorman tournament, baseball, April 2-5, times TBA-- The Cougars' challenging slate continues when they travel to Las Vegas for a tournament.

  • Hailey Sparacino, Alhambra softball -- Sparacino continued to crush the ball in an 18-0 win over Campolindo. She went 2 for 2 including a two-run homer with five RBIs and two runs in the March 20 victory.

  • Natalie Baldacci, Las Lomas girls lacrosse -- The senior scored six goals to help lead the Knights to a 12-11 overtime win over Dougherty Valley in DFAL play on March 21.

  • Taylor Blair, Carondelet softball -- Blair was the winning pitcher and went 3 for 4 with two RBI in a 5-2 victory over Monte Vista in EBAL play on March 20.

  • Will Brueckner, Acalanes boys golf -- Brueckner's strong senior season continued when he carded a 2-under 34 at the Rossmoor Country Club to earn medalist honors in a tri-match with Dublin and Alhambra on March 20.

  • Austin Cannedy, Clayton Valley Charter baseball -- Cannedy's dominant outing on the mound kept the Eagles undefeated on the season. He pitched a three-hitter in a complete game shutout, winning 6-0 over Concord on March 20.

  • Sabrina Ionescu, Miramonte girls basketball -- Ionescu scored 35 points to lead the Matadors to a 92-87 win over Carondelet in the NorCal Open Division semifinals on March 18. She then poured in a game-high 23 points in a 78-64 loss to Salesian in the NorCal title game.

  • Matt Ladrech, Campolindo baseball -- Ladrech tossed a complete game shutout, allowing just three hits in a 7-0 win over Alhambra on March 20 that improved the Cougars to 2-0 in DFAL play.

  • Tyler Sandberg, Northgate baseball -- Sandberg totaled five hits in a two-game sweep of Ygnacio Valley during the week of March 17. He was 3 for 3 with two RBIs in the 6-1 win on March 20.
