Pleasant Hill to host National Night Out

Pleasant Hill residents are invited to participate in the city's National Night Out recognition event from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 5, at Pleasant Hill City Hall, 100 Gregory Lane.

The event will include a barbecue, giveaways, police K-9 demonstration, kids' bounce house, and tours of a police car, fire truck and ambulance.

There will also be the opportunity to ask questions and socialize with police officers, members of American Medical Response and the local Community Emergency Response Team, according to Lt. Dan Connelly.

National Night Out started in 1984 when people in 400 communities in 23 states gathered to strengthen neighborhood spirit and create partnerships between law enforcement and the community to lower crime.

Now, 38 million people in more than 16,000 communities from all 50 states, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide participate.
