Rudolph runs wild for Gaels

  • Dublin High football player Ondre Rudolph was more like Hurricane Ondre in the Gaels' 29-21 win over Miramonte on Sept. 21 to open the Diablo Foothill Athletic League season. Rudolph ran for an amazing 341 yards on 28 carries and three touchdowns. Unofficially, Rudolph has 1,222 yards rushing in just five games.

    Shields doesn't break

  • Foothill senior running back/linebacker Cody Shields was among the many Falcons' defensive standouts in a 21-14 EBAL win over Monte Vista on Sept. 21. Shields set the tone with a sack of Nikita Zamora for an 8-yard loss on the Mustangs' third offensive series.

    California defense delivers

  • The unbeaten California High football team used clutch plays on defense to nail down a 31-21 East Bay Athletic League win over visiting Amador Valley on Sept. 21. Grant Sherrod sealed the victory with a 78-yard return on a fumble recovery after the Dons marched into scoring position in the fourth quarter. For the Grizzlies, Jake Lepere had a key interception, Nate Grixti kicked a clutch 24-yard field goal and Karris Johnson ran for 99 yards.

  • San Ramon Valley at Amador Valley, football, Sept. 28, 7 p.m. -- The Dons (2-2, 0-1 EBAL) look to rebound from a 31-21 loss to California in their league opener. The Wolves (1-3, 1-0) are trying to build off their first win of the season, 34-19 over Livermore.

  • Granada at Monte Vista, football, Sept. 28, 7 p.m. -- The Matadors (3-1, 0-1) have a tough assignment for their league opener against the versatile Mustangs (3-1, 0-1), who dropped a 21-14 heartbreaker against Foothill last week.

    Stars of the week

  • Kyle Campiotti, Granada football -- Campiotti had 48 yards rushing, including a 1-yard touchdown run, and 26 yards receiving in the Matadors' 48-14 loss against No. 1 ranked De La Salle on Sept. 21.

  • Emily Hovanessian, Amador Valley tennis -- The junior cruised to a win at No. 1 singles as the Dons improved to 3-0 in the EBAL and 10-1 overall with a 9-0 win over Granada on Sept. 20.

  • Kimberly Liu, Amador Valley golf -- Liu shot a 1-under 35 at Ruby Hill Golf Club, leading the host Dons to a 206-325 win over Livermore on Sept. 20.

  • Kyle Moreno, Amador Valley football -- Moreno had a solid game with 217 yards passing, including touchdown compoletions to Kyle Greenan and Grant Miller, and 74 yards rushing on five carries in the Dons' 31-21 loss against California.

  • Amanda Tuazon, Foothill volleyball -- Tuazon had 36 assists, four kills and three aces as the Falcons improved to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in the EBAL with a win over Granada.

  • Cameron Rowland, Diablo Valley College football -- Rowland, the former Foothill star, had six receptions for 48 yards, including a 5-yard touchdown catch in the second quarter, against Chabot.

  • Jalen Avery, Monte Vista football -- Avery had three catches for 62 yards, including a 26-yard touchdown reception, in a 21-14 loss against Foothill on Sept. 21.

  • Sabrina Clayton, California volleyball -- Clayton had 26 kills, 11 digs and two aces as the Grizzlies earned a big 25-19, 14-25, 25-22, 30-28 win over San Ramon Valley in the EBAL on Sept. 20. California improved to 9-2 overall and 2-0 in league play.

  • Mason Melin, Monte Vista football -- Melin had four receptions for 95 yards, including a 13-yard touchdown catch from quarterback Nikita Zamora, in a 21-14 loss against Foothill in Sept. 21.

  • Quinn Kaehler, Diablo Valley College football -- Kaehler, the former Cal High quarterback, passed for 490 yards and five touchdowns as the Vikings beat Chabot 44-20, avenging a loss to the Gladiators from last season.
