LIVERMORE -- Lawrence Livermore National Security announced the recipients of its Community Gift Program on Nov. 12, distributing awards totaling $100,000.

Grants were handed out to 26 community groups and educational programs in the Tri-Valley area, including the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District's Teaching Opportunities for Partners in Science (TOPS) program, the lab program at Granada High School, the Livermore-Amador Symphony Orchestra Club at Junction Avenue School, the Livermore Valley Performing Arts Center's Fun with Physics Show and Las Positas College. As part of the grant process, LLNS received 66 applications totaling more than $600,000.

Other local grants went to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) programs at Amador Valley High, Dublin High, Fairlands Elementary, Windemere Ranch Middle School, Dougherty Valley High, the Alameda Science & Engineering Fair Association, the Give Every Child a Chance after-school program, the Contra Costa Economic Partnership and the Oakland and San Ramon Valley school districts.
