Go Victorian Sunday at Ravenswood home

The Ravenswood Historic Site is planning an old-fashioned "Victorian Yuletide" on Sunday.

The free event is an open house from noon to 4 p.m., allowing visitors to see the 1890s-era home decked out for the holiday season. There will be entertainment, including buggy rides, drinks and desserts for sale, visits with Saint Nicholas and a gift shop.

The Livermore Area Recreation and Park District event is a partnership with the Ravenswood Progress League. The Ravenswood site is at 2647 Arroyo Road. For event details, call 925-443-0238.

Big band/jazz concert free at Las Positas

The traditional sounds of American big band and jazz music return to Livermore for a free concert at the Las Positas College on Monday.

The Commanders, a newly-revived ensemble composed of airmen from the U.S. Air Force Band of the Golden West, will perform traditional jazz, cool, bop, swing, Broadway favorites and patriotic music. Typical concerts include favorites from Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Dizzy Gillespie, as well as today's modern jazz groups.

The show starts at 6:30 p.m. in the college theater. Tickets and parking are free. The college is at 3033 Collier Canyon Road.

Tickets are available for pickup from the Veterans Office at Las Positas College, Building 1000, or at the college's main reception desk, Building 100.

Community Band to play Christmas show

Join the 80-member Danville Community Band for "A Christmas Fantasy, a Sunday afternoon of free holiday entertainment.

The 3 p.m. holiday concert will be held at East Bay Fellowship, 2613 Camino Tassajara, Danville. Led by Director Robert Calonico, founding Director Lawrence Anderson and Teri Museil, assistant director, the all-volunteer band will perform a program of holiday music including "Secret Agent Santa," "The Eighth Candle," Holst's "Winter Suite" and more. Guest vocalist Katie Robinson will join the band. And there might be a special visitor from the North Pole.

Christmas musical event set for weekend

The community is invited to a "Celebration of Christmas" musical program Sunday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 655 Old Orchard Drive.

The annual program is free and will run from 7 to 8:30 p.m. It will feature choirs from California, Dougherty Valley, Monte Vista and San Ramon Valley high schools, as well as other local choirs and carolers and congregational singing.
