Sprouts Farmers Market is poised for a big push into the Bay Area with new stores in San Jose, Walnut Creek and Fremont on the heels of its purchase of rival organic and natural foods market chain Sunflower Farmers Market.
The first of two Sprouts stores in San Jose is slated to open Wednesday at Prospect Road and Saratoga Avenue in West Valley Shopping Center. The second San Jose store will open July 18 at Branham Lane and Almaden Expressway.
Sprouts also intends to open a store in September in Walnut Creek at Geary Road and North Main Street.
Recently, Sunflower opened a market in Fremont that will be re-branded under the Sprouts name. Last year, Sprouts opened a store in Dublin.
With the purchase of Sunflower, Sprouts has revenue that is projected in 2012 to approach $2 billion. Sprouts now operates 144 stores and employs 11,000.
