DANVILLE — Oakland Raiders linebacker Kirk Morrison visited Danville's Sycamore Valley Elementary School on Tuesday, speaking at an assembly and joining students in some physical education activities.
Fifth-grader Taylor Vetter, 10, won the visit for her school through a random drawing in the Raiders' sixth annual "Take a Player to School" sweepstakes, which was designed to help students make healthful choices and set positive academic and extracurricular goals.
"They think it's so cool, and so do I," Taylor said about the reaction from classmates.
She said her dad, Tom Vetter, was watching the last Super Bowl when he saw a commercial about the contest. They then went to a JCPenney store and filled out the forms to enter.
"He just filled it out on a fluke," she said. "I didn't think we would win."
Taylor said her family is from Pittsburgh, Pa., originally, and were Steelers fans. Even though she was an infant when they moved to Danville 10 years ago, Taylor said she remembers the Steelers. But when they got to the East Bay, she said, "We just fell in love with the Raiders."
More than 75,000 students nationwide entered the contest, either through the Web sites nflrush.com and jcp.com or at JCPenney stores. There was one winner in each of the NFL's markets, plus two other schools in non-NFL markets picked as at-large winners.

In addition, winning schools get donations of fitness equipment from the NFL, footballs from Wilson Sporting Goods and $2,000 from the NFL and JCPenney.
The San Francisco 49ers "Take a Player to School" visit will be held in December. That winner has not yet been announced.
