It was an open audition for depth at the running back position with presumptive starters Darren McFadden and Marcel Reece not on the field during the Raiders' organized team activity session Wednesday.
McFadden is tending to a youth football camp in his home state of Arkansas and wasn't present, while Reece is just getting immersed in the system after signing his exclusive rights tender Monday.
That left the bulk of the work at running back to trade acquisition Mike Goodson and second-year back Taiwan Jones. Goodson got most of the first-team work and continued to impress.
At fullback, free agent signee Owen Schmitt and first-year back Rashawn Jackson got most of the work.
``It's nice to have Marcel back. He's a little behind but he's working hard to get caught up in what we're doing offensively,'' coach Dennis Allen said. ``He's got a skill set that can be beneficial for us.''
``They wont' have everything (installed), but for the most part, they'll have the core of what we're doing to be,'' Allen said.
The club can have no contact with players from June 14 until they report to Napa on July 29 other than voluntary weight room sessions.
"I'm not going to read too much into that because what I have seen out of Terrelle Pryor day in and day out is he gets a little bit better," Allen said. "That's all we can ask for is that he keeps making progress, and he's done that so far.''
Pryor was often off target with his throws and seemed to have difficulty with the rollout passes which will be a staple of coordinator Greg Knapp's offensive system.
Allen has preached playing hard up to the point of contact, then backing off, keeping players off the ground.
At the same time, Allen's post-practice message urged the players to play with ``passion and violence.''
Those who were present but not practicing as they rehab injuries included center Stefen Wisniewski, defensive tackle Matt Shaughnessy and linebacker Aaron Curry.
Wisniewski and Shaughnessy aren't expected to be ready until training camp, meaning they will miss next week's mandatory minicamp as well.
