The Raiders re-signed kicker Eddy Carmona on Tuesday in a move that provides relief for mainstay Sebastian Janikowski during offseason workouts and training camp, as well as insurance in case Janikowski gets injured between now and the regular-season opener.

Carmona kicked well for the Raiders during training camp last season and in exhibition games. Predictably, he was waived at the end of camp.

Perhaps surprising, no other team signed Carmona. He did not kick in a regular-season game last season.

Janikowski is the longest-tenured Raider now that punter Shane Lechler is gone. His job is as secure as anyone on the roster, given his experience and sustained success during his 13-year NFL career.
