The Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office has produced a public-service announcement warning against the duplicity of "blind" home sale signs promising callers quick cash or a quick buyer for their home.
A four-minute video explains the ins and outs of the illegal signs, often emblazoned with a phone number and the lure of getting your house sold in a matter of days or an offer of a house at rock-bottom prices. The signs are often affixed to utility poles.
People who encounter the signs should ignore them, says Deputy District Attorney David Lim in a statement. Answering the postings, he said, will likely get the caller in touch with a con artist, identity theft, corrupt real estate agent or even robber.
Signs can be reported to the Real Estate Fraud Unit of the D.A.'s office by calling 408-808-3754.
