ALBANY — Firefighters have contained a two-alarm fire at a lumber yard this evening.

The fire was reported at 7:20 p.m. at The Lumber Baron, in the 500 block of Clevelend Avenue; just off Interstate 80 and near Point Isabel.

Crews from fire departments in Richmond, Berkeley, Albany and El Cerrito responded and had the blaze under control around 8:15 p.m., Richmond fire Battalion Chief Marcus Rayon said.

The blaze started in the back of the yard, near some sheet metal sheds, Richmond fire Chief Michael Banks said.

No employees of the lumber yard were at work when the fire started and there were no injuries.

"The lumber yard was locked up when crews arrived," he said.

The cause was not clear Thursday night, but Rayon said lumber was the primary reason it spread.
