NORTH RICHMOND -- A second person was shot and killed Friday afternoon about a block away from where a man was fatally shot Thursday night, according to the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Department.

An unidentified man was shot and killed around 2:02 p.m. in the area of West Grove Avenue and First Street, according to Jimmy Lee, spokesman for the sheriff's department. The man, who was found lying on the ground, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds, was pronounced dead a short time later by paramedics.

The killing came about 18 hours after 30-year-old Rylando Matlock was found shot on the first block of Silver Avenue, just one block away, where neighbors reported hearing shots fired about 9:38 p.m.

Lee did not say if investigators believed the homicides were related.
