HERCULES -- The West Contra Costa school board on Wednesday appointed Paul Mansingh principal of Hercules High and L. Renee Lama principal of Hercules Middle School.

Previously, Jen Bender served as principal of both schools on the combined campus. But after a fight erupted in November between a transgender student and some girls she said had taunted her, followed by a February vote of no confidence in the principal by a majority of tenured high school teachers, Bender announced she would not return to her position in the fall.

The district decided to hire a separate principal for each school to provide more oversight.

Mansingh was previously assistant principal at Hercules Middle School and Lama was assistant principal at Kennedy High in Richmond.
