TRACY -- Tracy police are have arrested a Modesto brother and a sister on suspicion of homicide for the stabbing death of a 22-year-old Tracy man.

Phillip Sanchez was killed shortly after midnight Wednesday in front of his family's home in the 200 block of West Whittier Avenue, police said. It was the first homicide in Tracy this year.

Police arrested Victor Garcia, 22, and his sister Samantha Garcia, 21, about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday near their home in Modesto. Police declined to say exactly where the two were arrested.

Police declined to release the motive or say if the suspects knew the victim.

A resident called police about 12:15 a.m. Wednesday to report that a man had been in a verbal argument that had turned physical. Police found Sanchez collapsed and bleeding from multiple stab wounds. Witnesses told police they saw a man run away from the scene and leave in a waiting car.

Sanchez was taken to Sutter Tracy Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 1:10 a.m. Wednesday.

Both suspects were booked for murder and remain in the San Joaquin County jail in French Camp without bail, police said.
