TRACY -- A California Highway Patrol officer who pulled over a pickup truck for a traffic violation Wednesday instead stumbled upon a dead body lying inside a sleeping bag in the bed of the truck, a San Joaquin County Sheriff's deputy said.
The discovery around 1 p.m. occurred after the CHP officer pulled over the truck in the area of eastbound Highway 132 and S. Welty Road, Deputy Les Garcia said. Details of how the body was discovered were not released.
A driver and passenger in the truck were detained but no arrests were made.
Investigators said an initial examination of the body, a male whose age wasn't released, showed now visible signs of trauma. Autopsy and toxicology results are pending, and it likely will take six to eight weeks for their results to be known.
The person's ID was not released pending notification of his relatives.
