TRACY -- Police are investigating allegations that a teacher had inappropriate contact with a student.

Police were called to Traina Elementary School on Windsong Drive about 2 p.m. Wednesday to investigate the charge, according to a statement from investigations Lt. Luis Mejia.

The investigation is ongoing and police declined to release any further details.

Investigators have met with Jefferson School District officials, who are cooperating with the investigation, to discuss the allegations, Mejia said in the statement.

It was not clear if the teacher is male or female or how police got word of the possible inappropriate conduct. The teacher has been placed on administrative leave.

Jefferson School District Superintendent Dana Eaton, who has led the district for four years, declined comment on the case Monday.

"I really can't say anymore. It's an ongoing investigation," Eaton said. "We are just really focused on the continuity of the educational program and just trying to make sure every student feels safe at school."

Traina Elementary School has 800 students in kindergarten to 8th grade and 37 teachers, Eaton said.
