The annual Art Exhibition and Auction at the San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art is back for its 32nd year, starting on Sept. 29.

Here's how it works: The show itself -- which includes dozens of works from Bay Area artists -- runs through Oct. 27 at the ICA (560 S. First St., downtown San Jose). There is a silent auction of some works on Oct. 6 (5-7 p.m.), which is open to the public, but if you want to bid, it's $50.

Then on Oct. 27, it's the big live auction, a real treat for collectors. That's $100 (www.sjica.org or 408-283-8155) and it's always a sellout, so if you're interested, you should reserve your spot now. There's wine, champagne, hors d'oeuvres and desserts as part of the deal.
