Falcons' Tilcock advances to state meet

  • Steenalisa Tilcock of the Freedom High cross country team finished seventh at the North Coast Section Division I championships on Nov. 17 at Hayward High. Tilcock finished the 3.0 mile course in 18 minutes, 56 seconds and was the only Bay Valley Atheletic League to finish in the top 20 in the girls race and earn an invitatation to the CIF Championships. Heritage finished 12th in the Division I team championship and Antioch finished 15th. Five BVAL teams competed in the Division I boys team championship. Heritage finished ninth, followed by Liberty (11th), Freedom (15th), Antioch (18th) and Pittsburg (19th).

    Pittsburg's playoff run ends

  • The ninth-seeded Pittsburg High football team lost to No. 1 De La Salle 35-13 on Nov. 16 in the NCS Division I quarterfinals. Craijon Menefee ran for 115 yards and one touchdown against the stingy De La Salle defense.

    Falcons exit NCS playoffs

  • The sixth-seeded Freedom High football team lost 33-18 to No. 3 James Logan in NCS Division I quarterfinals, despite 189 passing yards from Dante Mayes and 89 yards on the ground from Joe Mixon.

  • CIF championships, cross country, Nov. 24, 8:30 a.m. -- The state's top runners will meet in a day of racing at the 5,000-meter Woodward Park course in Fresno. Races will be in five boys and girls divisions, based on school size.

  • Deer Valley vs. Sacramento at Newark Memorial HS, boys basketball, Nov. 24, 7 p.m. -- The Wolverines will have their first big test of the regular season when they face off against a solid Sacramento team, 12-1 last season, in the Newark Memorial Tournament. Deer Valley won its first Bay Valley Athletic League title and reached the NCS Division I championship game last season.

  • Steenalisa Tilcock, Freedom cross country -- Tilcock qualified for the CIF Cross Country Championships after finishing seventh overall in the NCS Division I championships on Nov. 17 at Hayward HS

  • Craijon Menefee, Pittsburg football -- Menefee was the first player to rush for more than 100 yards against the De La Salle defense this season. He also scored on a 25-yard touchdown run.

  • Joe Mixon, Freedom football -- Mixon caught an 18-yard touchdown and ran for a 1-yard touchdown in the Falcons' 33-18 loss to James Logan on Nov. 18 in the NCS Division I quarterfinals.
