Free, fun Earth Day events happening around town
The town will celebrate Earth Day on Saturday with a variety of events -- from a creek walk to a scavenger hunt, and even a chance to try your hand at trash art.
The day's events begin at 11 a.m. at the Village Theatre Art Gallery, 233 Front St., where events will continue until 5 p.m. From noon to 4 p.m. at the Town Green, Community Center and Library, 420 Front St., there will be fun for all ages with hands-on activities, displays, and information on sustainable practices, landscape design, energy efficiency, waste reduction, recycling, water conservation, fuel-efficiency, carbon footprint, green building practices and more.
There will be electric and hybrid vehicles on display, a scavenger hunt, giveaways and prizes. At 2 p.m. there will be a San Ramon Creek walk with an East Bay Regional Park District naturalist. The tour is sponsored by Friends of San Ramon Creek, for more information stop at the group's table by the library.
At the gallery, Earth Day posters created by students in kindergarten through 12th grade will be on display. From 11 a.m. to noon, visitors can make a recycled tree collage puzzle with artist Linda Colnett. From 3 to 5 p.m., artist Amanda Emery will show how to create one-of-a-kind recycled jewelry. Visitors are asked to bring an old T-shirt or other clothing to make a braided fabric bracelet. Visit www.villagetheatreartgallery.com or call 925-314-3400 for details.
