Can you feel it? Can you smell it?

The kids are getting restless, the fruit trees are getting heavy and the days are getting longer (and warmer). Yup, summer is coming! The City of San Ramon always does a great job of welcoming the start of summer with the annual Art & Wind Festival over Memorial Day Weekend from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday and Monday.

You better come hungry or at least work up an appetite watching the incredible kite flying because once again, local nonprofit groups are serving up loads of treats in the three food courts. This is a good way to support so many community organizations that rely on this event to raise needed funds. About 25 groups including local Boy Scout troops, California High School sports and clubs, service clubs like AAUW and the Rotary Club, several local churches and numerous city groups like the Arts Foundation and Historic Foundation will serve everything from ice cream and snowcones to tri-tip, BBQ chicken and ribs, pulled pork, gyros, lumpia, sausages and hot dogs and hamburgers. And don't forget the kettle corn, nachos, margaritas and beer and wine.

Puppet shows are a new addition this year presented by the Puppet Arts Theater Company performing classic children's stories at 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. both festival days.

Weather permitting, the hot air balloon launch will take place on Monday. The setup will begin between 5:30 and 6 a.m. followed by the launch. Brightly colored balloons and a hang-gliding demonstration will be a treat to see. Park at Iron Horse Middle School, 12601 Alcosta Blvd. for the launch.

Don't forget to visit the Kids Zone filled with craft activities and enjoy national kite flying champions presenting kite-flying demonstrations throughout the two days.
