A few more congratulations go out to some of our local teachers in the San Ramon Valley Unified School District who have earned recognition and awards for their hard work and dedication throughout the school year.
The San Ramon teachers include:
Susan Irwin, Iron Horse Middle School science teacher who is a top10 finalist for the Warren Eukel Teacher Trust Award.
Kent Johnson, instrumental music teacher at Cal High, was awarded the Northern California High School Band Director of the Year award.
Elise Tran, a fifth-grade teacher at Coyote Creek Elementary, was named KKIQ's Teacher of the Month.
Nora Atkinson and Caroline Kris, Special Day Class teachers at Bollinger Canyon Elementary, received recognition. Atkinson achieved National Board certification by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards and Kris was awarded the "Physically/Mentally Challenged Students' Issue Award from the California Teachers Association. Kris and paraprofessionals, Jason Medlock, Ashley Gruter, Sheila Fleming, Linda Leong and Shyamala Prakash also received the Down Syndrome Connection of the Bay Area's Excellence in Education distinction.
Dina Anderson, Cal High teacher, was named "Lead the Way" Teacher of the Year by the California Biomedical Science Project.
The Danville Area Chamber of Commerce named the San Ramon Valley Unified School District's Community Relations Director Terry Koehne 2013 Employee of the Year.
Leadership and PE teacher Melissa Sos and School Office Manager Barb Sheridan received the Honorary Service Award from the Iron Horse Middle School's PTA.
The Contra Costa County Juvenile Justice System recognized Vince Richards for "Outstanding Service Contribution by a Law Officer" and Robin Kelly for "Outstanding Service Contribution by a Community Volunteer." Richards and Kelly work with Del Amigo Continuation High School.

COME OUT TO THE FARM: See the perils and passions and melodramas! Oh My!
The Role Players Ensemble and San Ramon Historical Society are presenting the classic Victorian English melodrama "After Dark" and the American Wild West classic "Dirty Work at the Crossroads on Saturday and Sunday at Forest Home Farms.
Bring a picnic around 5 p.m. on Saturday. Wine, sodas, water and dessert will be available for purchase with the performance beginning at 6 p.m. Sunday's performance begins at 2 p.m. Bring a picnic to enjoy at 1 p.m. An ice cream social will be available at intermission.
The melodrama genre is known for its good versus evil and audience participation is encouraged to cheer for the good guys and jeer for the bad guys.
Role Players Ensemble Artistic Director is Eric Fraisher Hayes with a cast that includes Charles Woodson Parker, Eden Neuendorf, Craig Eychner, William J. Brown III, Joe Fitzgerald, Megan Miller and Sarah Sloan with music by Gary Neuman.
