SAN RAMON -- Live music, multicultural performances, stunning chalk art and more than 70 fine art sellers will highlight the 15th Annual Art in the Park event set for Oct. 5-6 in San Ramon.

The art-centric weekend will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days at San Ramon's Central Park, 12501 Alcosta Blvd. Admission is free. Art in the Park was for many years held in Danville and sponsored by the Alamo Danville Artists' Society. This is the second year the society has teamed up with the San Ramon Arts Foundation and the City of San Ramon.

As in past years, artists and vendors will donate 10 percent of their sales, which is used with other event proceeds to support art programs of all types in the San Ramon Valley Unified School District, as well as cultural arts programs throughout San Ramon. To date, the society has donated about $125,000 to elementary and middle school art programs through its Art in the Schools Fund.

In addition to watching demonstrations and chatting with artists, visitors will be able to browse a wide range of offerings, including paintings in a variety of media, sculpture, photography, ceramics, fine jewelry and textiles. A juried art show will be located in the Fountain Room of the community center. Outside, performance artist John Barry will create paintings not with a brush but with bicycles and roller skates. Visitors also will be able to watch expert chalk artists transform concrete into works of art. Working nearby will be high school chalk artists.

This year's event features a strong multicultural theme, which will be reflected in live music performances at the community center's amphitheater. Visitors will be able to enjoy performers including guitarist Kenya Baker; Ballet Folklorico Mexicano; Jiten Daiko, a Japanese Taiko drumming ensemble; and Los Cochinos Latin rock band.

The weekend also will feature children's tables full of hands-on art projects, along with plenty of chalk to create sidewalk masterpieces. Food provided by the Food Truck Mafia will be available for sale along with beer and wine.
