SAN RAMON -- Parents who want to learn more about the new Common Core State Standards taught in San Ramon classrooms this year are invited to a pair of information nights next week.

The first will be at California High School in San Ramon on Monday, Oct. 21 from 7 to 9 p.m. The second will be at Monte Vista High in Danville on Wednesday, Oct. 23 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Organized by the San Ramon Valley school district, the parent-teacher association and teacher's union, the events aim to offer parents an introduction to new standards and teaching principles teachers are rolling out in classrooms this year before the arrival of the new Common Core state standardized test in Spring 2015.

Following a short general session, parents will choose two 45-minute workshop sessions to attend where they can get their questions answered.

District officials say parent understanding of the new Common Core standards is vital to student success from kindergarten to seniors in high school.
