Local youth are invited to audition for Valley Teen Idol 2014 this month for a chance to win cash prizes for their talent.
The San Ramon Valley Rotary Club has created this community event to provide an opportunity for local youth to showcase their talents and raise funds for the schools' music programs.
Loosely modeled after "American Idol," the event is open to all students in grades seven through 12 and welcomes all forms of musical performances from vocal and instrumental to group performances.
Auditions will be at 2010 Crow Canyon Place in San Ramon from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 25; 1 to 5 p.m. Jan. 26; 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 1; and 1 to 5 p.m. Feb. 2. The semifinals will be held Feb. 22 at the Village Theater on Front Street in Danville with the finals to be performed March 22 at the Dougherty Valley Performing Arts Center in San Ramon.
Vocal, instrumental and groups are welcome to audition with a chance to win a grand prize of $2,500. Second place will be awarded $1,500 and third place will be awarded $1,000. For more information, visit www.SanRamonValleyRotary.com.
A NEW YEAR: It's a great time to start getting healthy.
The San Ramon Library Foundation and San Ramon AAUW presents Beth Greer, author of "Super Natural Home" on Saturday, Jan. 18 at 2 p.m. at the San Ramon Library, 100 Montgomery St. Greer will share advice about practical and affordable ways to protect the family and eliminate the toxins that are found in everyday products. This is a free event.
ANOTHER CRAB FEED: This time it is to benefit local animals and is being presented by the San Ramon-based Paws In Need, which provides financial assistance for veterinary medical needs for animals in the Tri-Valley.
The Paws In Need Valentine Crab Feed will be Saturday, Feb. 8 at the Shannon Center, 11600 Shannon Ave., Dublin. The menu will include cracked crab, pasta, Caesar salad, bread, dessert and coffee or tea with a co-host bar offering beer, wine and nonalcoholic drinks. Raffle baskets and silent auction items will also be available.
All proceeds benefit local animals and the spay/neuter and Just Like New programs which rely solely on public donations and contributions from the community.
