Monte Vista keeps perfect record intact

  • The Monte Vista High boys basketball team dominated the first half and had three players score in double figures to earn a 72-30 East Bay Athletic League win over Granada on Jan. 24. The victory improved the Mustangs' record to 18-0 overall and 6-0 in the EBAL. Spencer Rust scored 16 points for Monte Vista, which led 41-18 after two quarters. Stefan Mitu added 12 points in the win and teammate Trevor John had 10. Luis Ramirez had six points for Granada, which saw its record fall to 11-7 overall and 3-3 in league play.

    Karczewki, SRV get past Amador

  • The San Ramon Valley boys basketball team earned a 51-36 win over Amador Valley on Jan. 24. The Wolves controlled the first half, allowing just 10 points in the first two quarters as it took a 16-point lead at the break. Jerry Karczewki had 13 points to lead San Ramon Valley, which improved to 15-3 overall and was in third place in the EBAL entering the week with a 4-2 record. Stokley Chaffee had nine points for Amador Valley, which entered the week on a four-game losing streak.

    Valley Christian dominates Bentley

  • The Valley Christian girls basketball team dominated the second quarter to pull away from Bentley and earn a 69-24 win on Jan. 24 to improve to 17-3 overall and 6-0 in the Bay Counties League-East. Four players scored in double figures for the Vikings, including Kayla Frierson with 20 and Arianna Cunha with 18. Valley Christian outscored Bentley 27-5 in the second quarter to take a 37-11 lead at the break. Bentley dropped to 11-7 overall and 1-5 in league play.

    Foothill wrestlers hit their stride

  • Troy Knatt pinned all four opponents he faced at the Kermit Bankson Wrestling Invitational at Albany High on Feb. 25 on his way to winning the 162-pound weight class and earning one of two Most Valuable Wrestling tournament awards. Knatt's record this year is 23-5. In girls wrestling, Rachael Butler took second place in the 139-pound class at the Hollister Lady Bash Tournament. She pinned her first three opponents before losing to the No. 1 ranked wrestler in the state in the finals. Butler is ranked third in the state and her record this year is 20-4.

  • Foothill at Monte Vista, girls basketball, Feb. 1, 7 p.m. -- The Mustangs will try to hold off the streaking Falcons in a key EBAL game in Danville.
