Museum exhibit to look at area's ranch heritage
An exhibit at the Museum of the San Ramon Valley will feature the cattle ranchers and ranches of the San Ramon Valley through May 14.
Underwritten by the Lesher Foundation, "Cowboys and Cattlemen: Ranching in the San Ramon Valley" will focus on the history of area ranching and highlight the stories of former and existing local ranches, including the Blackhawk, Elworthy, Macedo, Magee, Wiedemann, Wood, Rasmussen and Dougherty Valley ranches.
Tools of the cattleman's trade, such as saddles and branding irons, will be on display as well as historical maps, photographs and videos on area ranching. Kids also will have a chance to take a photo sitting atop a saddle and with a cowboy hat, or to hunt for cowboy items.
Every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., a local rancher will be on hand to talk to visitors. Also a branding demonstration is planned for Sunday, April 27 from 1 to 3 p.m.
The museum is at 205 Railroad Ave. and is open from 1 to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday and noon to 3 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $3 for adults, $1 for children and $5 for a family. For details, visit www.museumsrv.org or call 925-837-3750.
