California High wins county mock trial title
California High of San Ramon has won the 33rd annual Contra Costa County Mock Trial championship and will represent the area in the state competition March 21-23 in San Jose.
The school's mock trial team beat rival Miramonte High from Orinda during the final competition on Feb. 25 in a courtroom in Martinez. Miramonte placed second, followed by Dougherty Valley High from San Ramon and Northgate High from Walnut Creek.
The competition took place over four weeks and included 18 Contra Costa County high school teams. Others participating included: Acalanes, Alhambra, Antioch, Campolindo, Clayton Valley Charter, De Anza, Deer Valley Law Academy, El Cerrito, Hercules, Heritage, Kennedy, Las Lomas, Monte Vista and Richmond high schools.

'Valley Teen Idol' to be decided on March 22
The San Ramon Valley Rotary Club's Valley Teen Idol competition will wrap up with the talent finals to be held March 22 at the Dougherty Valley Performing Arts Center.
The 7 p.m. show will end with the big decision and the announcement of this year's winner. The center is at 10550 Albion Road in San Ramon. The annual fundraiser is modeled after the "American Idol" TV show. The valley version featured student competitors from grades seven through 12.
Former Danville Mayor Newell Arnerich will be the master of ceremonies at the final competition. Tickets are $35 for adults, $25 for students and can be bought at www.sanramonperformingarts.com. State of Town address, awards event upcoming
Danville Mayor Robert Storer will give a State of the Town address March 27 and recognize local residents, nonprofits and businesses for outstanding work in the community.
The State of the Town and Community Awards is an annual event and will be held this year at the Crow Canyon Country Club, 711 Silver Lake Drive in Danville. The luncheon starts at 11:30 a.m. Tickets are $35, and reservations are required.
