Brooke Dodson, of Alamo, is bringing what she learned while away at college back home to Alamo and the East Bay by creating a business to help clients save time and money.
Welcome to "Go Getters, Grocery Delivery Service in the East Bay Area." After Brooke graduated from Monte Vista in 2001, she went on to earn her undergraduate degree at UCLA. During that time, she told me she had the idea while working as a personal assistant to a family in Beverly Hills before graduating in 2005.
"Since then, I've done the grocery shopping for several family members and friends and finally decided to give it a go as an actual business," said Brooke. "This was also partially inspired by my recent MBA from UC Davis in 2013, where my focus was on the growing consumer demand for personalized service everywhere, and I was motivated to apply the same concepts I studied," said Brooke, who continued to grocery-shop for colleagues and classmates while studying for her MBA.
Go-Getters motto is putting the "person" back into personal shopping, "offering personalized, convenient and affordable grocery delivery service to the East Bay," and Brooke explained how Go-Getters works. "The system is pretty basic. To place an order, customers have the option of going to our website, www.gogetterseastbay.com, and submitting a grocery list, date and time for delivery. They can also email firstname.lastname@example.org or call the service directly at 925-787-2127. Brooke modeled her company based on personal shopping services, much like those of high-end department stores.
"Go Getters makes it their mission to develop relationships with their clients with each shopper taking the time to discuss a client's preferences, making note of brands, stores and specific products," said Brooke. She told me that additional services include helping clients enroll in retailers' club membership programs to help customers save money on their groceries.
"Go-Getters is committed to helping its clients save money, and the company takes advantage of retailers' frequent sales pricing and passes these savings on to our clients," added Brooke, who told me that Go-Getters requires no payment until a client's order is delivered. Brooke explained that orders can be placed for same-day delivery (orders placed within six hours include a $10 rush fee.).
Every client's first order is delivered for a flat fee of $15 plus the cost of groceries. A standard order is charged at $15, plus 10 percent of the total grocery bill and can include any number of items from up to three of the company's preferred grocery retailers in its East Bay service area, which are: Lunardi's, Nob Hill, Sprouts, Safeway, Trader Joe's and Whole Foods.
Orders for warehouse stores, Costco and Smart & Final, require a seven-day notice and requests for items from other retailers are usually possible, for an additional fee. Brooke, of course, has not forgotten this is where she grew up and has happily given donations to the auctions at Alamo School, Rancho Romero School and Stone Valley Middle School and has donated to the Rowan Branch of Children's Hospital.
"Supporting the community where I grew up is extremely important to me, which is why I also offer discounts to seniors," added Brooke. "Go-Getters gives our clients personalized service that doesn't break the bank. We're here to take something off your 'to do' list, freeing you to spend your time doing what you want to do instead of what you have to do."
