On Thursday, Danville celebrates excellence at its State of the Town and Community Awards luncheon at Crow Canyon Country Club. And just what state is Danville in (besides California)? Mayor Robert Storer will tell all in his address before the presentation of the 2013 Community Awards.

Awardees include Mary Tuttle, Citizen of the Year; Kiwanis Club of the San Ramon Valley, Charitable Organization of the Year; Joe Calabrigo, Danville Town Manager, Employee of the Year; and Bridges Restaurant, Business of the Year.

Have a taste: Danville area's businesses, restaurants, wineries and breweries will be featured in the 2014 Danville Business & Culinary Showcase from 5 to 8 p.m. April 3, also at Crow Canyon Country Club. This annual event is sponsored by the Danville Area Chamber of Commerce and provides an opportunity for San Ramon Valley residents to get to know various businesses in the area while enjoying locally prepared gourmet small bites, premium wines and craft brews.

a grand band: And the Danville Community Band performs at 2 p.m. April 6 at the Blackhawk Automotive Museum. The concert program, titled "A Gallery of Sound," includes marches and film scores and is free with admission to the museum, located at 3700 Blackhawk Plaza Circle.

volunteer a bit: If you've meant to volunteer to help others in our community, sign up for the Town of Danville's Lend-A-Hand Day on April 26, a Saturday. Between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., individuals and groups are needed to assist with a work crew that will provide senior citizens with no-cost yard cleanup and minor home repairs. Now in its 11th year, Lend-A-Hand Day is in honor of Older Americans Month, celebrated in May.
