SAN RAMON -- The lazy days of summer are officially over for San Ramon Valley students.
The first day of school was to be Tuesday for the San Ramon Valley Unified School District's 30,000 students who attend 35 schools in Alamo, Blackhawk, Danville, Diablo and San Ramon.
Attendance is up by about 700 this school year, continuing a trend of more families moving to the area for its high-performing schools, according to district officials.
