Fire chaplains' vigil to honor the dead
The chaplains of the San Ramon Valley Fire Protection District will host a holiday vigil dedicated to remembering loved ones who have died.
The event will be held at 7 p.m. Dec. 9 on the front lawn of the Danville Library at 400 Front St. The vigil is intended for those who are entering the holiday season with grief due to the loss of loved ones and as a way to remember and honor the people who died.

Area choirs to celebrate Christmas with music
The public is invited to a free evening of Christmas music Dec. 9 at the annual community Celebration of Christmas musical program.
Choirs from California, Dougherty Valley, Monte Vista, and San Ramon Valley high schools will perform. There will also be local choirs, men's carolers and congregational singing.
The event will run from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 655 Old Orchard Drive in Danville.

Free Thanksgiving dinner open to all
A group of Tri-Valley churches, businesses and individuals are hosting a free, traditional sit-down Thanksgiving meal from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday at St. Raymond Catholic Church in Dublin.
Billed as the first Tri-Valley community outreach Thanksgiving dinner, the meal is open to anyone who would like to share a holiday dinner with others. Volunteers will provide the meal, entertainment and children's activities.
People who wish to contribute money to support the dinner may write checks payable to St. Raymond's with a notation that it is for the Thanksgiving dinner. Checks can be mailed or dropped off at the church, 11555 Shannon Ave., Dublin, CA 94568.
