Sample fitness classes from the city for free

Free fitness classes are being offered as part of the city's "Thank You San Ramon!" campaign.

City residents can try Zumba, yoga, Pilates and other fitness classes from Jan. 7 to 12 without having to commit to an entire session.

Classes such as "Mambo Muscle Matness," "T'ai Chi Ch'uan," "55+ Gentle Yoga, 55+" "Yoga For Health" and "Zumba Gold" are offered in the morning and evening.

The Free Fitness Week is part of a series of free events the city will offer in 2013 as part of a campaign by city government to thank San Ramon residents for making the city a nice place to live.

Foreign film series to run first Fridays

The 1995 film "Picture Bride" will be shown at 7 p.m. Friday at the Front Row Theater, 17011 Bollinger Canyon Road.

It kicks off the First Friday Foreign Film Series, which features foreign films the first Friday of each month through April.

"Picture Bride" is about 17-year-old Riyo, who is sent from Japan to Hawaii in 1918 to be a mail order bride, but is shocked to find that her future husband is at least 25 years her senior. The film is in Japanese and English with subtitles and is rated PG-13.
