SRV swimmers rule EBAL roost

  • For the second straight year, San Ramon Valley High swimming teams earned titles in all four divisions at the East Bay Athletic League Swimming and Diving Championships at Amador Valley on May 11. Granada's boys team was second in the varsity standings, and Carondelet was runner-up in the girls varsity. San Ramon Valley junior Heidi Poppe won the 100-yard breaststroke title in 1 minute, 02.03 seconds.

    Grizzlies end Granada baseball win streak

  • The California High baseball team beat Granada 5-0 on May 8 to stop the Matadors' winning streak at 20 in a row to open the season. The Grizzlies' Adam Kimmel tossed a four-hitter with seven strikeouts and three walks. California improved to 16-5 overall and 8-3 in the EBAL. The Matadors rebounded to beat De La Salle 8-4 on May 10 to improve to 21-1 overall and 11-1 in the EBAL, clinching at least a tie for the league title heading into this week.

    Monte Vista tennis takes second in NCS

  • The Monte Vista High boys tennis team lost 6-1 to Miramonte on May 11 in the championship match of the North Coast Section team tournament. The Mustangs beat Dougherty Valley 5-2 in the semifinals.

    Granada boys divers a splash success

  • Granada High's boys divers took six of the top seven spots in the varsity 1-meter diving at the EBAL Swimming and Diving Championships. Granada's Matt Tyler took first place with 372.85 points and teammates Quincy Hernandez (362.90), Peter Cable (354.50) and Matt Cable (348.35) earned the next three spots. Livermore's Logan Mitchell (343.25) was fifth.

  • NorCal Championships, boys golf, May 20, 8 a.m. -- Qualifiers from the North Coast Section Tournament of Champions will vie in the NorCal event, trying for berths in the California Interscholastic Federation tournament June 5 at Quail Lodge in Carmel.

  • NCS Championships, swimming and diving, May 17-18, TBA. -- San Ramon Valley's girls team will go for a third consecutive team title at Cowell Pool in Concord at the two-day meet.

  • Jason Chen, Amador Valley swimming -- Chen set the meet record in the 100-yard butterly of 49.71 seconds at the EBAL championships. Chen also won the 100 backstroke (50.07) with a mark just off his meet-record of 49.75 set at Robert Livermore Park in 2012.

  • Lauren Hall, Amador Valley diving -- Hall earned the EBAL meet title in the girls varsity 1-meter diving with 450.70 points. Monte Vista's Fiona Caulfield was second at 409.50

  • Nick Silverthorn, Granada swimming --He helped the Matadors to wins in the 200 freestyle and 400 freestyle relays at the league, including setting a meet mark in the 200 free relay of 1:34.25. He was second behind De La Salle's David Morgan in the 200 individual medley with a mark that bettered the old meet mark.
