Amador Valley's McKinnon third in state 800 finals

  • Amador Valley High senior Conner McKinnon took third place in the 800 meters at the CIF state track and field finals in Clovis on June 7. McKinnon ran a personal-best time of 1 minute, 51.64 seconds, just off Dan Gabor's school record of 1:50.71. McKinnon also won the North Coast Section Tri-Valley Area and NCS Meet of Champions 800 titles, lowering his best time throughout the postseason. The Dons' boys 1,600 relay team finished fifth in the state in a season-best time of 3:16.15. The Dons finished third last year in the 1,600 relay in 3:13.57, after placing seventh in 2012, in 3:21.74. McKinnon and Ja'Maun Charles earned spots on the state medal stand for the second straight year in the event.

    Monte Vista's Starn impresses in 1,600

  • Monte Vista's Brooke Starn wrapped up an impressive sophomore season with a sixth-place finish in the 1,600 at the state track and field championships. Starn finished the race in 4:53.36 at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Clovis. Starn also won the event at the NCS Meet of Champions and Tri-Valley Area meet.

    Reichenbach, Mork shine in high jump

  • Foothill's Rachel Reichenbach and Granada's Kirsten Mork both made the finals in the high jump at the state track and field championships. Both Reichenbach and Mork jumped 5 feet, 7 inches in the preliminaries to advance to the finals, and both jumped 5-6 in the finals, with Reichenbach taking seventh and Mork finishing tied for eighth.

    Gaels golf completes record-setting season

  • The Dublin boys golf team made its first trip to the CIF state tournament a success, finishing in a tie for second place at San Gabriel Country Club on June 4. The Gaels had a team score of 371. Junior Jacob Solomon led the Gaels with a 1-under 70, and senior Chris Larsen shot a 71. Senior Justin Choi shot a 74, and sophomores Hayden Hui and Rei Echizenya both had 78s. William Choi carded an 82. Dublin won a sixth consecutive Diablo Foothill Athletic League title this season. Foothill's Tanner Hughes shot a 70 to finish tied for sixth with Solomon and three others and help Foothill take fourth.

  • Ja'Maun Charles, Amador Valley track and field -- Charles helped the Dons' 1,600 relay team to a fifth-place finish at the state meet and finished ninth in the 100 meters in a time of 10.74.

  • Lauren Larson, San Ramon Valley track and field -- Larson finished in a tie for eighth place in the pole vault at the state meet.

  • Brooke Starn, Monte Vista track and field -- Starn had an excellent sixth-place finish in the girls 1,600 at the state meet in a time of 4:53.36.

  • Tanner Hughes, Foothill golf -- The Cal-bound star shot a 70 at the state tourney to complete his brilliant career by leading the NorCal champion Falcons to a fourth-place finish as a team.

  • Chris Larsen, Dublin golf -- Larsen shot an even-par 71 at the state golf tournament to help the Gaels to their best-ever finish.

  • Megan McCandless, Granada track and field -- McCandless finished 11th in the girls 3,200 at the state meet in a time of 10:32.82.

  • Mecca McGlaston, Dublin track and field -- McGlaston won the 100 meter hurdles state title in a personal record time of 13.54 in Clovis.

  • Conner McKinnon, Amador Valley track and field -- McKinnon placed third in the 800 at the state meet with an exceptional time of 1:51.64, the third best mark in the state overall this year.

  • Tyler Olson, Livermore track and field -- Olson capped his strong season with an eighth-place finish in the 1,600 meters at the state meet in a time of 4:13.25.
