DETROIT -- The Sharks added toughness to their lineup Monday by acquiring Edmonton Oilers forward Mike Brown for a fourth-round draft pick in 2014.

Brown, 28, has earned a reputation for his gritty play and willingness to fight in 289 NHL games with the Vancouver Canucks, the Anaheim Ducks, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Oilers.

The Sharks also announced that defenseman Dan Boyle was placed on injured reserve, which opened a roster spot for Brown.
