SAN JOSE -- Sharks forward Brent Burns may be out of the lineup with a facial injury, but he was healthy enough to sit in an improvised barber's chair Friday.

Burns agreed to a buzz cut for his unruly mane and beard as a charity fund-raiser. The effort brought in $23,903 to be divided between Defending the Blue Line, a group that provides hockey equipment to military families, and the Katie Moore Foundation, a fund for research into rare cancers established by former Shark Dominic Moore after the death of his wife.

Three Sharks -- Jason Demers, James Sheppard and Adam Burish -- shared the honor of grooming Burns.

The defenseman-turned-forward who bore a resemblance to Chewbacca the past two seasons, declined to answer any questions about his current injury that has sidelined him the past five games. He has been skating on his own this week.
