Lakes
AMADOR: The weekly plant of 3,000 pounds went in Tuesday, but the big catches of the week were a 20-pound and 15-pound catfish. Shore fishing and trolling both are productive. (209) 274-4739
BERRYESSA: All is quiet here while anglers wait for the lake to turn over. (707) 966-2134
CAMANCHE: The South Shore Pond and the main lake are kicking out quality trout. Trollers toplining between Hat Island and Little Hat Island get rainbows to seven pounds. Power Eggs, Power Worms and Power Bait get trout in the 2- to 5-pound class from the pond. (209) 763-5929, (209) 763-5166
CHABOT: An 11-pound cat was caught Tuesday and that was the big fish of the week. Most of the action is coming from smaller, planted trout from the Island, Coots Landing and Half Moon Bay. Catfish are in Bass Cove and the Island. (510) 247-2526
CONTRA LOMA: Trout are biting Power Bait and nightcrawlers cast from Channel Point. Trout plants are going in every other week. Next one is next week. (925) 757-0404
DAVIS: Trout fishing is outstanding. All methods — bait, trolling or fly-fishing bring in dozens of fish in the 17- to 20-inch range. Best area for shore anglers has been Fairview. Fly fishermen do well in the northeast corner of the lake, and trollers are catching fish all over. (530) 832-5251
DEL VALLE: Trout fishing is very good. The morning is best for those using Power Bait or nightcrawlers. Shore
LAFAYETTE: A plant of 1,000 pounds of rainbow trout went in Tuesday, and fishing has been consistently good for those using rainbow Power Bait on east side of the lake and the South Cove. Some of the fish are in the 3- to 5-pound range. (925) 284-9669
LOS VAQUEROS: The South Cove was a consistent producer of trout last weekend. The planted trout attracted striped bass, too, but fishing during the week has been slow. Next trout plant is next week. (925) 371-2628
NEW MELONES: Anglers casting bait from the banks have been getting fish from Angels Cove and Glory Hole Cove. Small spinners and spoons also are effective. Trollers get fish from the surface to 50-feet deep. Bass are deep. Start fishing in 30 to 40 feet of water and use a slow, deliberate presentation. (209) 586-2383
SHASTA: Trout fishing is good from the surface to 20 feet. Trolling small Kastmasters or Cripp-L-Lures works well. Bass are more scattered. Catch spotted bass from the surface to 50 feet with tubes and plastic worms. 1-800-462-3917
QUARRY LAKES: Trout fishing continues to be productive with a good number of fish in the 5- to 7-pound range. Fishermen's Row and the left of the beach are the best spots to cast from. (510) 795-4883
Rivers
NORTH COAST RIVERS: There are salmon in the Smith, but most are on the small side and not great quality. For up-to-date information on river flows, call: (707) 822-3164; (707) 442-1832
TRINITY: A little rain fell, and the hope is steelhead will move upstream. The bite has been tough since late last week. (530) 623-4999
Delta
FRANK'S TRACT: Striped bass are taking trolled lures where anglers find clear water, otherwise bait fishing will attract steady action. Black bass fishing remains slow but find points out of the wind and use plastics with a slow retrieve for best results. (925) 625-2441
RIO VISTA: Decker Island, Sherman Island, Sandy Beach and the Rio Vista Bridge are productive spots for striped bass. The morning outgoing tide has been producing bass. Bait is better than trolling. (707) 374-2372
TRACY: Striped bass between 8 and 16 pounds have been common in the Grant Line Canal, and catfish catches have been solid. (209) 835-3182
Saltwater
BERKELEY/EMERYVILLE: The Happy Hooker has moved to Martinez and is taking limits of bass. The past two trips have resulted in two-fish limits to 12 pounds for all aboard from the waters of San Pablo Bay. Crab/sand dab combos have brought back limits of crab the past three trips, but sand dabs have been scarce. The last live bait pot luck trip went out on Saturday and had 20 stripers and five halibut for 13 anglers. (510) 237-3474, (510) 654-6040; (510) 223-5388
PILLAR POINT: Crab trips are coming back with five to eight crabs per pot. (650) 726-7133, (650) 726-2913
SAN FRANCISCO BAY: A 29-inch halibut was caught Tuesday from the Oyster Point Pier, otherwise most of the catch has been comprised of sharks and rays. Sturgeon have been seen rolling in the South Bay, but not biting yet. (650) 589-3474; (510) 703-4148
SAN PABLO BAY: Stripers are back at Buoy 5 and 7 for those drifting shiners, bullheads and mudsuckers. Largest bass are in the 10 pound class. A few halibut are in the mix. Lots of moving water this weekend portends for improved sturgeon fishing. (415) 456-0321
SUISUN BAY: Sturgeon and stripers have been active. Largest striped bass caught in the past week was a 27 pounder. Best spots for bass and sturgeon have been at the Mothball Fleet. (925) 229-9420
