STANFORD -- Stanford women's basketball team is headed for a rematch with reigning national champion Baylor and the Lady Bears' 6-foot-8 Brittney Griner, the 2011-12 collegiate player of the year.
Baylor, expected to win another national title, is one of the heavyweights on the Cardinal schedule that was announced Thursday. Stanford will play Baylor on Nov. 16 at the Jack in the Box Rainbow Wahine Classic in Honolulu, Hawaii. The Bears defeated the Cardinal 59-47 in the national semifinals in April in Denver.
Stanford, which has advanced to four consecutive Final Fours, has scheduled seven teams that qualified for last year's NCAA tournament, including a showdown Dec. 29 against Connecticut at Maples Pavilion. The Cardinal, which returns four starters from a team that went 35-2 overall and 18-0 in the Pac-12, also faces Gonzaga, South Carolina and Tennessee on the road in December.
The regular season opens Nov. 9 at Maples Pavilion against Fresno State after home exhibitions Nov. 1 and 3 against Corban University and Vanguard University.
All-American forward Chiney Ogwumike is expected to lead the Cardinal with All-Pac-12 guard Toni Kokenis and senior forward Joslyn Tinkle.
