Salesian High's Jabari Bird on Wednesday became the highest-rated recruit Mike Montgomery has signed at Cal.
Bird, who announced the news on Twitter, headlines a Cal class that is expected to also include guard Jordan Mathews of Santa Monica High and Sam Singer of Ransom Everglades School in Miami, Fla.
Cal made no official announcements on Wednesday.
Bird, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard and the son of former Cal standout Carl Bird, is rated by Scout.com as the No. 16 prospect in the country, while Rivals.com ranks him No. 23. He is considered a five-star prospect on both lists.
Consider that current Cal junior Allen Crabbe, who was the California high school player of the year in 2009-10 and was an All-Pac-12 pick last season, was rated just No. 69 by Rivals.
Scout placed Montgomery's class as the 19th-best in the country, behind only UCLA (No. 15) and Arizona (No. 17) in the Pac-12. Mathews, a 6-3 shooting guard, is a four-star prospect, rated No. 88 nationally by Rivals.
Gaels coach Randy Bennett is excited about his group. "They've all been at the top of their class where they've played thus far. They've been able to handle success well," Bennett said in a statement.
Pineau, from Melbourne, is the latest in a long line of Aussies who have found their way to Saint Mary's. Bennett coached 2012 Aussie Olympians Patty Mills and current Gaels guard Matthew Dellavedova,
Stanford did not announce any signings, but coach Tara VanDerveer's anticipated class is ranked fifth nationally by BlueStar Basketball Report. Stanford also had commitments from 6-3 forward Kailee Johnson, 5-11 guard Karlie Samuelson and 5-7 guard Khaliya Thompson. Guard Briana Roberson of Fullerton plans to join the team as a walk-on, according to reports.
McCall is Ridgemont's all-time leading scorer (1,876), rebounder (1,391) and shot blocker (672). She averaged 25.8 points per game, 16.7 rebounds and 8.4 blocks during her junior season. "She will be an instant impact to the team," her coach, Michael Martin, said Wednesday. "Her work ethic is what sets her apart. We always told her work beats talent. And she believes it."
McCall, whose sister DeWanna Bonner is a star with the Phoenix Mercury of the WNBA, comes from a basketball family. Her father, Greg McCall, is the Cal State Bakersfield women's coach.
The 6-3 Range and 6-2 Waters are among the class of 2013's top 55 recruits, according to recruiting websites. Range was an all-state selection last season at Manteca High.
