SAN JOSE STATE
Result: Beat Louisiana Tech 52-43
Comment: Tough to award an A+ when the opposition scores six touchdowns and gains 541 yards. But the Spartans actually played well defensively -- LaTech had been averaging more than 50 points per game. ... SJSU converted 8 of 13 third down chances, gained 610 yards and averaged 5.9 yards per rush. ... Loads of sparkling individual performances, from Bené Benwikere's three second-half interceptions to De'Leon Eskridge's 217 rushing yards. .... Victory caps a remarkable turnaround for the Spartans, who were 1-12 two years ago. Now the program is in better shape than many of those in their new home, the Mountain West.
Next up: Bowl game
The matchup: Unknown. The Spartans probably won't participate in a bowl game in the Pacific time zone. SJSU is likely to land somewhere in the eastern half of the country (the Little Caesars Pizza Bowl in Detroit, for instance). ... The other great unknown is the future of coach Mike MacIntyre, one of the hottest names in the country and a potential candidate for any number of vacancies.
