SANTA CLARA -- A day after formally trading quarterback Alex Smith to Kansas City, the 49ers reportedly swooped in to sign the Chiefs' best remaining free agent, defensive tackle Glenn Dorsey.
Dorsey's deal with the 49ers was first reported by ESPN. The fifth overall pick in the 2008 draft, Dorsey was limited to four games last season because of a calf injury.
Dorsey adds depth to a 49ers defensive line that lost nine-year veteran Isaac Sopoaga to the Philadelphia Eagles in free agency Tuesday. Ricky Jean Francois, the 49ers' top backup on the line last season, also is a free agent being courted by other teams.
