LIVERMORE -- Pleasanton National beat Nogales, Ariz. 6-3 on Wednesday night at Max Baer Field and is now just one win away from competing for the United States championship at the Intermediate Little League World Series.
Pleasanton, the District 57 champions, plays Port Oak of Houston on Friday at 3 p.m., with the winner advancing to Sunday's American title game. Port Oak beat Rutherfordton, N.C. 12-1 in Wednesday's other game.
Against Nogales, Pleasanton scored two runs in the first inning and one run in each of the next four innings to improve to 2-0 in the tournament.
Evan Wolfe, who threw a perfect game for Pleasanton in its 12-0 win over Jenison, Mich. on Tuesday, and Quinn Brinnon each had two RBIs in the win.
Also for Pleasanton, Drew Kobayashi went 2 for 3 with two runs and two stolen bases, Cal O'Loughlin was 3 for 4 with two runs and a stolen base and pitcher Mitch Benson threw all seven innings and struck out eight.
