Two singles and an error helped the host Visalia Rawhide score the winning run in the ninth inning of a 6-5 victory over the San Jose Giants on Tuesday night, tying the California League North Division playoff series 2-2.

The decisive game in the best-of-five series will be at 7:05 p.m. Wednesday at Municipal Stadium.

The Giants appeared on their way to clinching the series Tuesday as they took a 5-1 lead in the fourth inning. Ricky Oropesa hit a three-run homer in the second inning, and Elliott Blair had an RBI double and later scored on Matt Duffy's sacrifice fly in the fourth.

Visalia rallied in the bottom of the inning on a three-run homer by Sean Jamieson and a solo shot by Evan Marzilli.

  • Former Santa Clara University baseball standout Tommy Medica was promoted to the major leagues for the first time, being added to the San Diego Padres' roster. Medica, who starred at Bellarmine College Prep before attending Santa Clara, hit .296 in the Double-A Texas League this season.

  • San Jose State's Cody Blick finished at 7-under-par 203 to tie Washington State's Blake Snyder for medalist honors at the Itani Quality Homes Collegiate in Pullman, Wash.

    The Spartans finished fifth in the team standings, 20 shots behind first-place Washington State. Santa Clara tied for sixth with Chico State, one shot behind SJSU in the 12-team field.

  • The Cal's women's golf team finished first and San Jose State placed 12th in the Ptarmigan Ram Classic in Fort Collins, Colo. Cal, led by Nicola Roessler's 3-under 213, finished nine shots ahead of second-place Colorado. Roessler was one shot behind medalist Dana Finkelstein of UNLV.

  • The Santa Clara men's basketball team will have three of its West Coast Conference games on ESPN this season, the league and network announced.

    The Stanford women's basketball schedule includes at least 22 games to be televised, the school announced.
