Ryan Otten, San Jose State's all-time leader in receptions and receiving yards for a tight end, was signed to the San Diego Chargers practice squad Tuesday.
The team has not announced the signing but Otten confirmed it in a text message.
Otten's former teammate, offensive lineman David Quessenberry of the Houston Texans, tweeted earlier Tuesday, "Congrats to my boy @Ryan_Otten for gettin picked up by the chargers. They got a weapon."
Otten went undrafted after a strong SJSU career but was immediately signed as a free agent by the Jacksonville Jaguars. He was released when they made their final cuts.
The Del Oro High-Loomis product reportedly worked out for the New England Patriots two weeks ago but was not signed.
Otten caught 126 passes for 1,720 yards and 12 touchdowns during his San Jose State career and was a captain on last year's 11-2 Military Bowl championship team.
