MORAGA -- Saint Mary's College added some size to its men's basketball program by signing Evan Fitzner and Jock Landale to letters of intent.

The Gaels tapped their Australian pipeline for Landale, a 6-foot-11, 235-pound center from Melbourne. Fitzner, who is 6-foot-10 and 215 pounds, attends San Diego's Francis Parker School.

Landale, the 14th Australian to join the Gaels since 2001, was a member of his country's under-19 national team this past summer.

"He just started playing basketball seriously within the last couple of years and has really developed pretty quickly," Saint Mary's coach Randy Bennett said. "He reminds me of some of the other Australian big players we've had in our program."

"I have been following Saint Mary's over recent years because of the Aussie players," Landale said. "It is any Aussie basketballer's dream to attend Saint Mary's, but I never thought it possible for me."

Fitzner will provide Saint Mary's with versatility. He can play center or stretch forward and was a first-team All-Coastal League selection last season.

"Our offensive system should be ideal for Evan's strengths and he gives us a versatile, young big man," Bennett said.
