Freshman Hind Ben Abdelkader scored a career-high 18 points, Reshanda Gray added 14 and the No. 22 Cal women's basketball team defeated Cal State Bakersfield 70-51 Sunday at Haas Pavilion.
Ben Abdelkader made six 3-pointers, including five in a row in the second half to help the Bears (7-2) extend their winning streak to six. Gray, who ranks second in the Pac-12 Conference in field goal percentage, finished 6 of 11 from the floor.
Brittany Boyd had a season-high 12 assists and contributed six points for Cal, which matched the school-record with 11 made 3's against the Roadrunners (3-6).
"This is not that crazy of a thing for us," Cal coach Lindsay Gottlieb said of her team's long-range shooting display. "I don't know if that makes sense, but we know we have really good outside shooters."
Saint Mary's 88, UC Davis 71: The Gaels received double-doubles from Danielle Mauldin and Jackie Nared as they improved to 8-1 with a victory over the Aggies.
Mauldin had 23 points and 14 rebounds, and Nared had 14 and 11. Lauren Nicholson added 15 points for Saint Mary's.
Sydnee Fipps led UC Davis (2-7) with 23 points.
Kentucky 73, E. Tennessee State 56: Janee Thompson and Samarie Walker each scored 12 points to lead the fifth-ranked Wildcats. Kentucky tied a school record with its 11th consecutive victory to open the season.
Maria Bond led East Tennessee State (2-6) with 14 points.
Baylor 100, Houston Baptist 57: Odyssey Sims had 25 points and seven assists and Nina Davis added 16 points to help the No. 9 Lady Bears (8-1) rout the Huskies. Baylor extended its home-court winning streak to a nation's-best 65 games.
Syracuse 68, St. John's 63: C.J. Fair and Tyler Ennis each scored 21 points, and the No. 2 Orange (10-0) beat the Red Storm at Madison Square Garden.
D'Angelo Harrison led St. John's (6-3) with 21 points.
Villanova 73, La Salle 52: Darrun Hilliard scored 21 points and Josh Hart added 13, lifting the No. 10 Wildcats. Villanova is 10-0 for the first time since the 2005-06 season.
Missouri 66, Western Michigan 60: Oakland's Jabari Brown scored 15 points to help the No. 24 Tigers defeat the Broncos (5-4). Missouri (10-0) stretched its NCAA-best home-court winning streak to 25 games.
Oregon State 98, Maryland Eastern Shore 66: Roberto Nelson and Devon Collier, who entered the game as the top scoring duo in the nation, combined for 44 points as the Beavers (5-2) dominated the Hawks (2-5). Nelson finished with 20 points, and Collier had 24 and 12 rebounds.
UC Santa Barbara 72, San Diego 61: Michael Bryson scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Gauchos (5-3).
